Good Day Everyone

One and half ago world leaders were queuing up to declare any Covid-19 vaccine a global public good. Today we are witness to a vaccine apartheid that is only serving the interests of powerful and profitable pharmaceutical corporations while costing each one of us the quickest and least harmful exist route from this crisis.

As India went into lockdown in 2020, many Indians especially informal migrant workers were left deeply uncertain about what was coming next. Day after day our screens are filled with harrowing images of hospitals overrun, lines of people waiting desperately for a hospital bed or oxygen for a loved one. As the number of cases keeps climbing, the threat inches ever closer to home, family members, colleagues, friends, and neighbours.

I still remember when my phone rang one afternoon in February 2020. It was my brother-in-law calling to say he was feeling fever and having difficulty breathing.

My heart sank.

I knew I had to get to him as quickly as possible but Baniyas Square, a place in Dubai, was around 3000 kilometres from where I was located. The word COVID-19 hadn’t yet started to dominate everyone’s lives. We were only just beginning to hear about it, and I remember asking myself how this disease could make its way to my country, my town and to my own family like this.

At the time, wearing masks was still very new and people weren’t really taking it seriously. I can still hear my team lead’s voice in my ears reminding me to wear a mask when I was around my work place.

Thankfully, a combination of dedicated care, treatment and my brother-in-law’s strong will helped him beat the coronavirus and recover.

Here I am show casing the best and easiest way that everyone should practice during theses pandemics. Keep calm, protect yourself and others! Take these simple steps to prevent the spread of the virus!

Wash Your Hands Frequently

Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water.

Why? Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands.

Maintain Social Distancing

Maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing(better 6 feet).

Why? When someone coughs or sneezes they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus if the person coughing has the disease.

Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth

Why? Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and can make you sick.

Practice respiratory hygiene

Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately.

Why? Droplets spread virus. By following good respiratory hygiene you protect the people around you from viruses such as cold, flu and COVID-19.

Seek medical care early

Stay home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention and call in advance. Follow the directions of your local health authority.

Why? National and local authorities will have the most up to date information on the situation in your area. Calling in advance will allow your health care provider to quickly direct you to the right health facility. This will also protect you and help prevent spread of viruses and other infections.

Stay informed and follow advice given by your healthcare provider

Stay informed on the latest developments about COVID-19. Follow advice given by your healthcare provider, your national and local public health authority or your employer on how to protect yourself and others from COVID-19.

Why? National and local authorities will have the most up to date information on whether COVID-19 is spreading in your area. They are best placed to advise on what people in your area should be doing to protect themselves.

Like everyone we are also responsible in eliminating this pandemic from the earth. We are keen to help and support to get rid from this Pandemic.
